Gin Introduction

GIN ( National Drink of England ) Gin originated over three centuries ago in Holland when Franciscus De La Boe , professor of medicine at Holland’s University of Leyden mixed juniper berries & alcohol to cure kidney complaints. He was to produce a therapeutic medicine that was both palatable and inexpensive and could be made by distilling pure alcohol in the presence of juniper berries. At that time, it was believed that the oils contained in juniper berries could relieve kidney and bladders disease. The word Gin is derived from the French term ‘Jenever’ meaning Juniper Berries , the dark little fruits of the juniper tree contributes to the characteristic, strong perfume of gin other components include angelica, liquorice, orrisroot, dried citrus peel, caraway & coriander seeds, but these ingredients vary from one distiller to the other.
